As I was browsing web design sites for inspiration on a recent project, I stumbled across the Fred Perry 100 years site. It is sleek and modern, with the right touch of ‘heritage’. Great use of a real floor and wall as the setting for the site experience.

Trident merges Digital with Traditional

‘The people have Tweeted.’ That’s the headline for the latest Trident ad that ran in today’s issue of USA Today. The full page color ad featured real tweets from people who have tried the new Layers gum. The brand even used Twitter to gain approvals for tweet usage. I think this is a fresh idea of how digital can influence other traditional channels- something to keep in mind for your own clients/ agency partners…

Guinness World game

Would you like a year’s supply of Guinness beer? Guinness has worked with Google Earth to bring us ‘’Guinness World‘- where users can create their own virtual planet and then unlock waterdroplets to find the hidden goldenpint –granting eligibility for the grand prize. First you will need the Google Earth plug-in, and Facebook Connect if you choose to invite your friends. Sadly, you also have to be a U.K. resident, (remember to choose Great Britain in the drop down menu). Still worth checking out!

Seth Godin’s Brands in Public project

Marketing guru Seth Godin has recently unveiled a new project of his- Brands in Public (powered by Squidoo). It basically pulls in everything that is being said on the web about your brand into one place. Squidoo has built pages for many big name brands, but will see more to come. For $400, the brand can be in charge of the page layout and easily chime in to the conversations as they see fit.

Polaroid is saved!

One last bit of exciting news to end the week- Polaroid is not dead forever! The folks at The Impossible Project have been on a mission since 2008 when Polaroid’s film productions ended- to bring it back to life. After acquiring the complete film production equipment from Polaroid and signing a 10-year lease on the same factory buildings, The Impossible Project was proud to announce the start of production of its new analog integral film in 2010. Incorporating a modern streamlined set up and new technologies, the company will continue to be its own brand- offering a new, innovative type of analog film product.

(RED) + Nike = #laceupsavelives

This past Tuesday Dec. 1st was World AIDS Day, so I thought I’d share the ‘Lace Up Save Lives’ project from Nike + (RED). 100% of proceeds from these red shoelaces go towards the Global Fund and soccer-based programs that help fight AIDS in Africa. Twitter played a huge role on Tuesday to create awareness for RED- as all tweets with hashtag #red and #laceupsavelives were turned to a red color on screens all over the world. Using social media to spread the word for social good. Nice job.

Apple’s next gadget does it all?

So Apple has been secretly working away on the development of the ‘Tablet’– an electronic device to end all devices! It supposedly crosses a Kindle with an iPod Touch allowing for handheld gaming, web browsing, music listening and reading on-the-go. Want to read a full publication of Sports Illustrated on the Tablet? Then rearrange the articles the way you’d like to keep it? This demo video below from Time, Inc. shows you the endless possibilities and the future of magazines…
This is a bit off the normal topic of digital advertising, but anytime there is a new medium to communicate to people, we as advertisers have the duty to think before we engage. Let’s not exploit the channel with ad placements and wait a while before bringing something new and useful out there.
